Hamilton & District Council of  Co-operative Preschools provides information and services to the families of children interested in or attending
co-operative preschools.  The council supports member schools in a variety of ways.   

The objectives of Hamilton and District Council are:

  • to promote centre stability and programming excellence through Membership with Hamilton & District Council.
  • provide each Member School access to our school group insurance discount with Co-operators Insurance.
  • to meet the needs of our Member Schools through workshops at General Meetings for staff and Board members in addition to Professional Education Days for school staff.
  • regular communication with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Health Department and City Staff to ensure the most up-to-date information regarding legislation, funding or, Health regulations.
  • to work collaboratively with On-Co-op, and OPPCEO in Ontario to deliver the necessary information Co-operative Preschool Boards require to run efficiently and according to the requirements of the Co-operative Corporations Act. 
  • collaborate with partner organizations to deliver meaningful workshops for Co-op Preschools in Ontario & to investigate Grants to offset the costs of these workshops for its member schools
  • to collaborate with provincial partner organizations and our Member Schools to find creative solutions to meet the challenges we have in common.
  • to offer General Meetings that provide a venue for Staff and Board Members to bring their questions and concerns to the table to network and discover new ideas and solutions.

Hamilton & District Council also:

  • promotes interchange of information among preschools
  • provides continuity
  • assists parents wishing to form a co-op preschool
  • promotes community appreciation of parent education and preschool education
  • encourages continuing education for teachers and directors
  • co-operates with family service organizations and educational groups in the community serving the needs of parents and young children
  • supports the development of new programs in our changing society
  • have responsibility for the administration of the Hamilton & District Council Integration Program for special needs children in Co-op preschools within the Hamilton Area
